Culinary Arts Sept/Oct Article

Culinary Sept/Oct Article

In September, Culinary Arts students took the sanitation exam and most received their sanitation license, making them highly employable in any food service establishment. They also practiced knife skills and learned how to cook with a variety of cooking methods, including sauteing, roasting, baking, boiling and simmering. For example, to learn sauteing, students prepared chicken sofrito and brown sugar glazed carrots, among other foods. To learn how to boil and simmer, students made mashed potatoes and gravy and soup. In October, students will continue mastering cooking methods, as well as learning how to cook vegetables and meats, including pork, beef, and chicken.
