Oh my goodness!  How are there only 23 class days left for this amazing group of young ladies??  This entire year has flown by. Hard to believe that graduation for these ladies is just around the corner. Besides this limited amount of class time, the students also have 2 job shadows remaining as well as a virtual field trip to interact with staff and to observe a live open heart surgery.

February was a normal busy month. Students are having fun learning their medical terminology words.  We have played Medical Terminology Jeopardy and Bingo. We have used word search and crossword puzzles to become familiar with all these challenging words.  Students are also becoming more familiar with the on-line version of our workbook.

Our visit to Hawthorne Inn was a great success. The students made Valentine’s Day cards for the residents and presented them with beautiful red carnations.  On one of my clinical nights with the HOYA I students, I noticed that some of the residents still have their carnations, 2 weeks later.

As March has come in like a lamb, HOYA II will have the March lion spirit.  They are continuing their job shadows . They will be using their knowledge of the medical terms that they have mastered thus far and will be completing critical thinking worksheets as well as some case study of some of their residents/patients they are caring for during their internships.

Students have started their community/public health surveys and will now compose an essay on those findings. Community/public health will always affect any healthcare provider, so it is important to not only know what citizens of their community find important but also to know what types of healthcare each community offers.

Next week the ladies will be updating their educational bulletin board to address another pertinent health issue; Eating Disorders. I am looking forward to the newest board as the students have done such an amazing job on each of the previous ones.

As March hopefully changes to warmer weather, please remember to work on some relaxing outdoor activities. Spring and Spring break will be here before we know it.
